Easy fall drives from Canal Park

Skyline Parkway. The scenic road along the ridge above Duluth, with views over the city and the lake. Hawk Ridge, on the parkway, is known for the fall hawk migration.

Enger Tower. A short drive up the hill for a view of the harbor in color.

The North Shore (Highway 61). Drive north along the lake. Gooseberry Falls State Park is about an hour from Canal Park.

Jay Cooke State Park. Southwest of Duluth, with the St. Louis River and the swinging bridge.

Our tip: Go early in the morning on a weekday if you can. You'll beat the traffic on Highway 61 and be back in Canal Park for a late lunch.

Fall colors without the drive

Walk the Lakewalk and look back at the hillside, or take a Vista Fleet fall cruise for color from the water. Glensheen's grounds are also pretty in fall; check their October hours.
