Duluth Girls Weekend or Bachelorette in Canal Park

The quick answer: Canal Park works well for a Duluth girls weekend or bachelorette because you can walk from your condo to dinner, drinks, shops and the lake, and nobody has to drive. Book one big place or two condos in the same building, plan one daytime outing and one night out, and leave room for the hot tub.

We're Tiegen and Keenan. Tiegen grew up in Duluth, and we host families in Canal Park year round, so this is the same advice we give our own guests.

Why Canal Park for a girls trip?

Nobody has to be the driver. Dinner, drinks, the bridge and the lake are a few minutes' walk apart, and you can head back to change between plans.

Where should the group stay?

• Up to 12: Aerial Lofts, the whole top floor of the 1890s Marshall Wells warehouse, with 5 bedrooms, 5 bathrooms and two kitchens. It's set up for a getting-ready day with two sides that open to each other. It's a third-floor walk-up with no pool.
• 6 to 8: Dockside Suites (3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms) or L'Etoile du Nord (3 bedrooms and a 10-person kitchen island).
• Bigger, with a pool: book two condos in our Waterfront Plaza building and meet in the hot tub or the cocktail lounge.

A simple weekend plan

Friday. Arrive, drop bags, walk to dinner on Canal Park Drive, and finish in the hot tub.

Saturday daytime. Pick one: a Vista Fleet harbor cruise, shopping in Canal Park, a walk out to the lighthouse, or a drive to Glensheen for a tour. Guests have also used their Brix Passport for local classes and tastings.

Saturday night. A long dinner, then drinks in Canal Park or a sunset or cocktail cruise if it's running.

Sunday. Brunch, one last walk past the bridge, and home.

Our tip: Plan one big group dinner at home in the condo. It's cheaper than a big reservation, and it's usually the night people remember. L'Etoile du Nord's 10-person island was made for it.

Aerial Lofts sleeps 12. For more, book two or more condos in the Waterfront Plaza building.

Is there somewhere to get ready for a wedding?

Yes. Aerial Lofts has two sides, so one part of a wedding party can get ready on each side.

Do we need a car?
